Mayor Di Vito on the Orta Nova brawl: “Unacceptable scenes, collaboration and respect for the rules are needed”

A fter hours of silence dictated by respect for the celebrations in honor of Saint Anthony of Padua, the patron saint of the city, the new mayor Domenico Di Vito spoke publicly to firmly condemn the violent brawl that broke out on Thursday 13 June in Orta Nova, following a road accident.

“Unacceptable scenes of violence, which do not reflect our community” – declared the mayor, taking a position on an episode that has caused dismay among residents. The brawl, which took place in the center, involved several individuals, including owners of damaged cars and family members of the driver of the vehicle in circulation. During the intervention to calm the spirits, two Local Police officers – Commander Michele Bruno and Chief Inspector Lasalvia – suffered minor injuries.

“My applause goes to them and to the entire Municipal Police force – added Di Vito – for the courage and promptness demonstrated in an extremely delicate context”.

On Friday, the mayor took part in a meeting with the prefect of Foggia , together with the other newly elected mayors of the province. A useful opportunity to discuss the main critical issues of the territory, starting from the growing perception of insecurity and the widespread situations of illegality.

“It was a constructive discussion,” Di Vito explained, “which confirms the importance of collaboration between institutions to build a safer and more cohesive community.”

Finally, the appeal to the citizens: "We need responsibility, collaboration and respect for the rules. Only in this way will we be able to overcome together the fragilities that still cross us".
